2nd Doc Appointment
Well, the Xondervan and I had our 2nd Dr. appointment this morning at 9:30. I threw up in the car on the way, and the only thing we could find for me to throw up in was a little package for a car cleaning pad. Yep, classy... I've been meaning to stash a few plastic grocery bags in my purse and in the car, but obviously I hadn't gotten around to it yet. Something about the taste of water has been churning my stomach lately, so as soon as I had taken a couple of swigs, that was all she wrote. I've been trying to drink a lot of juice to compensate, but mostly I've been sticking to ginger ale and Sprite. The funny thing is that I pretty much drank only water and milk before I got pregnant, so I thought I would have no trouble once I actually got pregnant. --I also eat a lot of fruit--sometimes vegetables--but mostly fruit. I think the sugar helps to settle my stomach. I can only squeeze some meat in every now and then.
Regardless of my poor nutrition as of late, Babykins is doing really well! First they checked my blood pressure, which was normal. Then they checked my weight, and I haven't gained a single ounce. I do feel like I've gained weight in the tummy area, so I may have lost weight in other areas because of morning sickness. Or it could all be in my head, and I really haven't gained any in my tummy area at all! Who knows???
Then we had the ultrasound, and Babykins is about 10 mm (or 1 cm) long now--about the size of a raspberry but the shape of a cashew. We could see the yolk sac, too. We got to actually hear the heartbeat today, and it was going about 146 beats per minute. The superstition is if the baby's heart rate is above 140, you're having a girl. They also say if you have a lot of morning sickness, you're having a girl. Combine that with the fact that not one single person has predicted we would have a boy, and I guess I'm just going to refer to her as "she" now. :-) Though we will be thrilled with either!
The Dr. is having a little trouble pinning down my due date because every time she measures, she gets a different date, and I have an irregular cycle. We do know it should be around May 18th-20th. Not very many people deliver on their due dates, anyway, so two days doesn't make a difference. She did say she didn't think I would be as late as Xon's b-day, though. (May 27th) :-)
After that, I had some blood drawn to check for various diseases, etc., and then I came back to work. My next appointment will be October 30th at 10:00 a.m. I think she said my next ultrasound will be around 18 weeks.
Here's a pic of the little one:
